Road Biking
Road biking is a fairly unusual discipline in an adventure race, but it is an intrinsic part of the Heb. The roads in the Hebrides are relatively free from traffic and there are always great views, so the riding is terrific. However, the course also covers huge distances and road biking is an excellent way to get the teams between the more interesting bits of terrain for the other disciplines, while maintaining an unbroken human powered link.
In 2004 there was approximately 350 km of road biking with 1100 m of climbing.
Finally, there is a road bike time trial on one day of the race which is rewarded with both a small prize for the fastest individual, but also bonus minutes for teams.
The other disciplines in the Heb are: hill running, sea kayaking, mountain biking and swimming.
