115 days to go!

2009 Race Cancelled

27 May 2009 - It is with much sadness that the organizers of the Hebridean Challenge have decided that this year’s race cannot go ahead.

The reason is simply the number of entries received not making the ‘Heb’ financially viable this year, in view of the lack of any other money supply than the entry fees. The event is a victim of the current economic climate, since its income cannot support the costs involved in holding it. All entry fees will be refunded in full over the next week or so. The Heb Team are very disappointed to have to announce this and apologize for any inconvenience caused to competitors, supporters and marshals. This decision has not been taken lightly, but we are already working hard to make Heb 2010 a bumper year.

On a positive note, there will be a very informal social gathering for ‘Friends of the Heb’ with some ‘own risk’ training over the weekend of 4 and 5th July, based on the Isle of Skye. The weekend promises to be fun, challenging and very sociable with a chance to meet up with fellow racers and Heb stalwarts and get their input into your own training regime! It is also an opportunity for us, as an organizing team, to canvas opinion as to how the race can evolve – and make firm plans for 2010.

It will also be possible for those who wish to do so, to travel on and savor the delights of Lewis and Harris from the Tuesday onwards and to informally train there, too.

To indicate an interest in this ‘Friends of the Heb’ gathering and to arrange to meet up, please contact Joe and Lindsey, or Stef via the contact details on the site.

Apologies once again – we hope to see as many of you as can make it, on Skye.

Steph, Gavin and Joe

P.S.

On a personal note, I and a PT-teacher colleague who supported me through intensive breast cancer treatment throughout 2005 are doing the Edinburgh Moonwalk on the night of June 20. I am desperately looking for some sponsorship if anyone still has a job and is feeling generous!Any sum from £1 upwards will be gratefully received.

Please go to justgiving.com/stephaniesargent.

For anyone who doesn’t know, a Moonwalk is a marathon, through the night, that you power-walk and is in aid of breast cancer charities and the Breast Cancer unit of the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, under whose care I am.

I have sponsored quite a few Hebbies over the years: this is payback time!
