The Start of a Plan
07 January 2008 - We're racing from Eriskay to the Butt of Lewis; some rules changes coming up.
The Heb 2008 will, as previously indicated, be Directed by Paul Corrigan with Gavin Earons as Route Planner and Results officer.
The event will, once again, be based for its opening weekend of June 28/29 on the Isle of Eriskay. As in 2007 some competitors will travel across to compete on the Isle of Barra and kayakers will paddle there.
This means that competitors are likely to need to arrive on the ferry from Oban to Lochboisdale (travel via Skye to Lochmaddy is also possible) on Saturday 28 June 2008. They can depart via Stornoway on Lewis or Tarbert on Harris on Saturday 5 July.
The end point will once again be the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse with a ceilidh at Ness Hall (close to the lighthouse). I will put out a full itinerary (see the draft) as soon as I receive confirmation from the venues for Monday to Thursday inclusive, so that those of you who wish to do so can book B&B's.
We anticipate a range of changes to the Rules and to the points system and we will alert you as soon as we have the details. I have had a lengthy meeting with Gavin this weekend and anticipate one with Paul and Gavin later this month. If any past competitor has suggestions for changes that they would like considered, please do contact me as soon as possible - preferably by email so that I have it in writing!
I apologise for the fact that it appears that there was a problem with my email and some emails have not got through. If you have emailed me but haven't received a response then please email me again. I switched over to a new provider on 17 December and it's been working fine since then.
Best wishes and Happy New Year
Stephanie
