Getting Ready!
29 June 2007 - All of us tumble hastily the sixty-odd miles down to the Sound of Harris ferry. Meet up with ‘pair’ Colin and Bennie, our only local competitors –happily, raring to go. Rumour has it Bennie has been training on Harris mountains with rocks in his backpack!
Quit school, running and speed off to meet up with Victoria, Melissa (daughters), John Armstrong (RD), Martin Searle (Chief Marshall). My house looks like a Pickfords Depository after a tornado…All of us tumble hastily the sixty-odd miles down to the Sound of Harris ferry. Meet up with ‘pair’ Colin and Bennie, our only local competitors –happily, raring to go. Rumour has it Bennie has been training on Harris mountains with rocks in his backpack!…Later, a cheery reunition in the lovely Pollochar Inn, South Uist after a run down the Uists in warmth and evening sunshine. Potential problems to think about: insufficient marshalls and many CPs still to put out in Lewis and Harris, as Gavin Earons (Route Planner) injured himself and had to give up. He’s on a date with the Island Games in Greece (temps of over 45 degrees reported there!). Davy Broni has done a magnificent job on the Uists CPs, as ever, and I know I can rely on my mates in HMCG and Robert-the-Dentist to sort Barra!
