50 days to go!

Race Director, Paul Corrigan

Paul Corrigan

The Race Director for 2008 will be Paul Corrigan MBE. He will be well known to those of you who have attended the plethora of Scottish events that he has organised, particularly around Aviemore.

Paul was an engineer with the Royal Navy at Faslane for many years but is now a Development Manager for Cairngorm Mountain. Before his job on the mountain, Paul was for 5 years the Events and General Centre Coordinator for the Speyside Trust Badaguish Centre in Aviemore – a registered charity providing respite care and activity holidays for adults and children with special needs.

Paul has lived in Scotland for 32 years, during which time he has managed to bag all the Munros (completing the round in 2005)!

A longstanding and active runner on road, hill and cross-country, he also enjoys mountain biking, water-skiing and hill-walking. A keen event competitor, he has taken part in numerous sporting events over the years including road races, marathons, mountain marathons, duathlons, adventure triathlons and hill races. He has represented both the Royal Navy and Dumbarton AAC in the past.

Paul has been involved with organising outdoor sporting events and challenges for people of all levels and abilities for over 20 years and has in conjunction with many of these events raised funds for a wide range of different charities (this was recognised by the award of an MBE in 1994).

Paul was the organiser of the Corrieyairack Challenge charity duathlon event from 2001 – 2006 doubling the entry numbers and quadrupling the annual event sponsorship raised during his tenure.

He was also the creator of the Aviemore Highland Half Marathon which attracted over 1000 entries in 2007. That year, he also launched the successful Cairngorm Charmer duathlon and continues to be involved with a number of other event organisations in a consultative role. Paul is also a member of the Cairngorms National Park project team tasked with producing guidelines for outdoor events and organisers within the national park area.
